- Abstract
Developing an eco-friendly, efficient and cost-effective wood modification technique should be prioritised due to increasing environmental concerns. In this study, the effect of temperature on tin-based metal bath modification of Cunninghamia lanceolata wood properties was investigated. The wood was treated at 150°C and 210°C for 120min and 480min and the mechanical (modulus of elasticity and rupture, impact bending, compression strength and hardness) and physical (contact angle, colour and water absorption) properties of the wood were compared with the untreated. The results showed that with increased modification temperature and time, the modulus of elasticity and rupture, impact bending, compression strength, hardness and water absorption decreased. In contrast, contact angle and colour increased significantly after thermal modification. Tin-based metal bath modification technology was an effective treatment method and the treatment of the wood at high temperature significantly impacted the properties of the wood.
