- Abstract
The dissertation "Government Use of Print. Official Publications in the Holy Roman Empire, 1500-1600" by Saskia Limbach analyzes the use of official prints by the governments of the Dukes of Württemberg and the Imperial City of Cologne in the 16th century. The author examines how the authorities conducted political communication through the use of printed publications and how this appeared from the perspective of the printers involved. The study highlights similarities and differences between Württemberg and Cologne and also sheds light on the economic motives of the printers. The work provides new insights into the extent and objectives of government use of printed publications and expands understanding of the connections between consolidation of power and print publishing in the Early Modern period.
