- Abstract
The article offers some background notes on the concept of standing doctrine in the U.S. It discusses the case Frothingham v. Mellon, the leading case on the general issue of taxpayer standing. It focuses on the role of taxpayer suits under the Establishment Clause, citing the cases Flast versus Cohen and Valley Forge Christian College v. Americans United for Separation of Church and State Inc. It discusses the case Hein v. Freedom from Religion Foundation Inc. and the various positions taken by the justices on standing to challenge faith-based spending.
