- Abstract
Single crystals of KUOCl were grown out of a molten chloride flux and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. KUOCl crystallizes in the monoclinic space group, P2/ m, with a = 7.0139(18) Å, b = 4.0933(10) Å, c = 8.542(2) Å, and β = 104.194(6)°. The uranium atoms are located in a uranyl, UO, environment with two oxygen and three chlorine atoms in the equatorial plane. The optical properties were measured, and this compound exhibits strong luminescence. Graphical Abstract: The synthesis, crystal structure, and luminescence of KUOCl, a new complex uranium oxychloride, are reported.[Figure not available: see fulltext.]
