- Abstract
The article discusses freedom of the press in Venezuela. In 2006, Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez announced that "Radio Caracas Television (RCTV)" was about to shut down. However, it was common knowledge that RCTV, the oldest television channel in the country, was highly critical of his government. Several worrisome points have been brought up in light of the government's decision to not renew RCTV, including the fact that it has reduced the country's informative plurality. The article continues to mention that RCTV had violated the Organic Law of Telecommunications as well as the Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television.
