- Abstract
This article discusses a study on avian poxvirus in red-legged partridges in Spain. The researchers investigated a decline in the partridge population and found that the disease was caused by avian poxvirus. They replicated the disease experimentally and demonstrated the efficacy of a commercial chicken vaccine in providing cross protection. The study also found that juvenile partridges were more susceptible to the disease and that secondary bacteria may play a role in captive or experimental birds. The researchers suggest further investigations into avian poxvirus in similar field cases.
