The article argues economic voting in Europe has been the political consequence of the 2008 global financial crisis. The article mentions the impact of protest mobilization and electoral punishment on governments in countries such as Iceland, Hungary, Latvia, and Ireland. It also mentions how disaffected voters used realignment to punish political parties in the electoral process.
