- Abstract
The article discusses a conflict between U.S. Air Force (USAF) Chief of Staff General Curtis E. LeMay and U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara concerning the development of the B-70, an experimental manned Mach 3 bomber aircraft. The author comments on U.S. defense budgets and examines LeMay's ideas concerning air power and deterrence. Other individuals discussed include U.S. President John F. Kennedy, USAF Chief of Staff Thomas D. White, and USAF Vice Chief of Staff General Frederic H. Smith.
