The article offers world news briefs as of March 2012. The expiration of drug patents have negatively impacted the profits of several major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Eli Lilly. U.S. researcher Paige Cramer of the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and colleagues found that the cancer drug bexarotene rapidly reversed the signs of Alzheimer's in mice. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug for treating cystic fibrosis, called Kalydeco.
