The article offers information on the regulatory challenges related to development of both forms of housing including accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and micro-units in several cities of the U.S. such as Washington D.C., Austin, and Seattle. It informs that changing household composition results in mismatch between housing needs and existing housing supply in the U.S. It analyzes the general financial obstacles to micro-unit and ADU development.
