- Abstract
The article "Creator of Happy Hours... - Utopian Spaces of Amateur Actresses in the Early 19th Century" by Meike Wagner deals with the opportunities that were available to bourgeois women in the early 19th century through participation in amateur theater associations. The article shows, using the example of the Berlin Urania, how amateur theater acted as a link between private and public theater and contributed to the bourgeoisification of the profession. It discusses the political significance of performative acts and their utopian potential. The text also addresses the role of actresses in the 19th century and their attempts to emancipate themselves from patriarchal structures. It emphasizes the need for further research on the biographies of actresses in the 19th century in order to shed more light on the degree of emancipation.
