- Title
Biologisch abbaubarer Polyester mit ähnlichen Eigenschaften wie hochdichtes Polyethylen: Universität Konstanz.
- Abstract
Researchers at the University of Konstanz have developed a biodegradable polyester that exhibits similar properties to high-density polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE is a durable material, but it is not biodegradable. However, the new polyester can be chemically or enzymatically broken down and was found to be one order of magnitude faster in degradation by enzymes and microorganisms compared to reference materials. The good biodegradability of the new polyester is attributed to one of its components, ethylene glycol. This new polyester presents itself as a recyclable thermoplastic that does not persist in the environment for long.
