- Abstract
The article reports on a study by Texas Tech University which revealed the capability of low-grade cotton as a natural sorbent for oil, published in the American Chemical Society's periodical "Industry & Engineering Chemistry Research" in 2014. Topics discussed include how the 2010 crude oil in the Gulf of Mexico triggered interest in developing environmentally sustainable materials for environmental remediation, as well as the basic mechanisms behind oil sorption by nonwoven cotton webs.
