- Abstract
In the article the author proposes an educational model for the developing world that stresses self-reliance, justice and equality. The author argues that traditional Western education systems do not work in the Third World, and only seek to create elitist societies. The article discusses the role of colonialism in education, and how it forces values on the colonized countries. The article discusses examples of educational systems in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. The author discusses several aspects of his Third World educational model including village level schools, the planting of traditional food crops, democratic decision making procedures, and instruction in native languages.
