- Abstract
The article discusses the importance for librarians to set programs in cross-cultural competence to meet the needs of diverse communities. Topics include prejudices in the Dewey Decimal cataloguing system and efforts of the American Library Association (ALA) in workforce diversification such as the Spectrum Scholarships. Also mentioned are six stages of the Bennet Scale including the denial, minimization and defense as ethnocentric stages and the acceptance and integration stages.
