- Abstract
An essay is presented on the role Jacksonville, Florida's radio industry in promoting concerts and commercial activities related to popular music. According to the author, Jacksonville's prominence in the U.S. music industry was largely related to the corrupt practices of local disk jockeys (DJs). Details related to the radio station WAPE-AM and the activities of station founder Bill Brennan, DJ Sheldon Summerlin, and promoter Tom Register are also presented.
