- Title
Remote and Autonomous Operations The Way Forward.
- Authors
Spurvey, Rondey
- Abstract
Fugro, a leading geodata specialist, has built a remote operations center (ROC) in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The ROC allows personnel to control offshore survey activities, such as piloting uncrewed surface vessels and performing subsea inspections, from a high-tech office. The ROC features advanced technology, including a custom-designed video wall and a reliable network infrastructure. The benefits of remote operations include increased safety, reduced logistical and environmental burdens, and easier access to survey experts. The ROC has already received work from local offshore energy operators and plans to expand its services to other industries. Fugro has successfully conducted remote surveys using unmanned surface vessels in other parts of the world and hopes to do the same in Canada.
