- Abstract
Describes the crystal structures of the conserved cytoplasmic domain of the toll-like and interleukin-1 receptors, known as the TIR domain, which is characterized by a large conserved surface patch that also contains the site of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) mutation. Finding that the surface patch is crucial to receptor signalling; Indication that the patch may mediate interactions with the MyD88 adapter molecule and that the LPS mutation may abolish receptor signalling by disrupting this recruitment.
