- Authors
Merritt, Corinne R.
- Abstract
The article discusses the recommendations needed by first-generation college students in the U.S. It cites that author H. B. London described first-generation college students as educational pioneers, and are often from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds with lower socio-economic income. Researchers M. J. Reid, and J. L. Moore III recommends that college and universities must provide support and guidance for first-generation college students, and encourage them to take advantage of the academic and support systems available in the campus. It mentions that colleges and universities must consider the demographics of the student body, size of the institution, and other factors that explores ways to meet the needs of first-generation students.
