- Abstract
In the last twenty years, there have been various initiatives throughout Switzerland to promote STEM education. The involved branches of subject-specific pedagogy have also benefited from these initiatives. Within the framework of various programmes, cooperation between universities of science and technology and universities of teacher education has been emphasized. This paper first clarifies what is meant by STEM and, in particular, by general technical education. Second, some of the Swiss programmes in the field of STEM as well as the results of an investigation of cross-university cooperation within the framework of such a programme are presented. Finally, the potential of these initiatives for STEM education is discussed.
