In this article, the author focuses on the use of pre-reading strategies to students towards addressing the literature's historical context in their essay assignments. It mentions the poem "On Being Brought from Africa to America" by Phillis Wheatley in context with the students engagement in writing activities to help them identify with the life experiences. It also mentions that historical context can be a part of student's critical thinking about the literature.
