- Title
THE PLANT ECOLOGY OF SERPENTINE: II: PLANT RESPONSE TO SERPENTINE SOILS.
- Abstract
The article analyzes the relations of the oats Avena sativa variety Victory with serpentine soils and offers information on experiments conducted to investigate the response of plants to serpentine soils. Based on the article, A. sativa has been used to assesses the nutrient characteristics of serpentine soils because symptoms of common deficiencies for the species have been well documented. A study has shown that the oats presented nickel toxicity symptoms when grown in a serpentine soil in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The experiments were done to determine it edaphic serpentine ecotypes exist in Europe.
