- Abstract
Background: 63.9% of individuals with diagnosed DM2 have suboptimal glycemic control. Objective: To establish recommendations through expert consensus on the use of Flash Glucose Monitoring System (fCGM) in type 2 diabetes patients from Mexico's private and public Health System perspective. Method: Expert consensus was performed by specialists in endocrinology, considering 80% consensus amongst participants. Recommendations were based on diagnostic criteria, and level of evidence from clinical practice guidelines. Results: The consensus exercise resulted in a recommendation to use fCGM in type 2 diabetes treated with glucose-lowering drugs, basal or multiple doses of insulin with suboptimal control of glycemic levels, unnoticed or inadvertent, frequent, or severe hypoglycemia or those that have high risk of hypoglycemia. The number of recommended daily scans per patient is eight readings. Conclusion: Stemming from the present consensus exercise, we recommend use fCGM in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and suboptimal glycemic control, inadvertent, frequent, or severe hypoglycemia or those that have high risk of hypoglycemia, current treatment notwithstanding.
