- Abstract
The article offers information on a method for the diagnosis of cracked teeth that was used for a 12 year old male patient. The method uses a diagnostic material that has been specifically formulated for the detection of cracks. The material includes an indicating dye solution and a solvent for the removal of dye. The dye solution was applied to the incisors with the help of cotton pledget and the excess dye was removed using the dye-removing solvent. On application, a blue line clearly became visible on the labial surface of the upper right incisor which indicated the exact location of the crack. Then a restoration was placed on the affected tooth. This method requires less than two minutes from start to finish. It is stated that the use of this material provides a very rapid and positive method for the detection of a crack in the tooth.
