- Abstract
This article provides an overview of the Medicare and Medicaid programs in the U.S. Medicare is the health insurance for the aged and disabled. Medicaid was formulated as a medical care extension providing cash income assistance to the poor especially the dependent children, the disabled and the elderly. Medicare beneficiaries having low incomes and limited resources can also avail the Medicaid Program including nursing facility care, prescription drugs, eyeglasses and hearing aids.
