- Abstract
The article discusses the contribution of Baptists to the philosophy of religious freedom and social justice. It describes the practice of appropriating ideas for Baptist use, the work of pastors Martin Luther King, Jr., T. B. Maston, and Millard Fuller and their influence on social change, and the Baptist understanding the relationship between the church, the gospel, and social problems. Other subjects under discussion include the biblical and theological foundation for Baptists' understanding of social justice, the notion of the Kingdom of God as a personal and social reality, and the cultural influence of Baptist spirituality.
