- Abstract
The article discusses a study which reported the first molecular detection of Rickettsia rickettsii in Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks in 26 percent of ticks that were obtained from dogs in a small state of Yucatan, Mexico. Topics covered include the confusion between rickettsiosis and dengue fever, a description of the brown dog tick, and the number of ticks and fleas collected per house and the results obtained for Rickettsia species identification.
