- Abstract
The article examines the process and outcomes of the Youth Neighborhood Mapping Initiative (YNMI) sponsored by the City and Regional Planning program at the University of Memphis in Tennessee in the summer of 2007. The initiative is described as a university-community partnership aimed at encouraging urban teenagers to take an active role in improving their neighborhoods while receiving training and exposure to careers in city planning, community development and geographic information systems (GIS). The role of technology in the initiative is explained.
