- Abstract
The article "Apocalypticism as a Form of Reflection on the Climate Crisis" examines the use of apocalyptic language and ideas in the climate debate. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the state of the world at the UN Climate Conference in 2022 in apocalyptic terms and warned of an irreversible climate chaos. The use of apocalyptic language is not new and has existed for over two thousand years. In his study, the author Alexander-Kenneth Nagel also examines ecological apocalypses and the use of visual and symbolic language in the climate movement Extinction Rebellion. The text also addresses the perspective of the book of Daniel and its prophetic visions, as well as ideas of development and progress, as well as redemption and the end of the world in modern times. Climate activism aims to raise awareness of the urgency of the need for action to prevent the climate catastrophe and to emphasize that humans have the power to transform reality and prevent impending doom. The climate movement "Last Generation" demands a revolutionary transformation of society to address the climate emergency and preserve the foundations of human existence.
