- Abstract
In electronic commerce, geo-blocking is understood as the blocking of offers considering the geographical location of the internet user. On the other hand, geo-pricing refers to the price setting of said offers in view of the user's location. This study aims to analyse the implications of geo-blocking and geo-pricing under the unfair competition law on the internet. To further analyse said practices, one must firstly examine the technical elements regarding both geoblocking and geo-pricing and their relation to content control in the Internet, as well as the acceptance of economic agents to the practices. Furthermore, this essay will scrutinize the lawsuit involving Decolar.com, investigating its business model and the background of the civil class action against Decolar.com as well as the competition aspects of geo-blocking and geopricing in that lawsuit. The methodology used consists in case study and qualitative bibliographical research by means of the method of indirect documentation. Therefore, this work confirms that geo-blocking and geo-pricing denote dishonest means to divert customers as well as instruments to disparage competitors.
