An essay is presented on the importance of law enforcement accountability to deal with survivors of abuse and gender-based violence. Topics discussed include role of the criminal justice system in addressing gender-based violence, use of civil and human rights frameworks as a tool for law enforcement oversight, and concern regarding law enforcement abuses toward LGBT survivors and women of color.
