- Title
AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF AUDITORY DISCRIMINATION ABILITY OF CHILDREN WITH ARTICULATION DEFECTS.
- Abstract
The article examines the relation of poor auditory discrimination ability and functional articulation disorders of children in the U.S. The tests used were the Templin modification of the Travis-Rasmus Test of Auditory Discrimination and the Phonetically Balanced Kindergarten Word Lists (PBK). The tests were administered to 20 pairs of white male and female children who are normally hearing with ages from seven to sixteen years old. Every pair consisted of individual with functional articulatory defect and normal speech. The pairs were matched based on their age and sex. A monitored live voice was used to present all test stimuli. It was found that children with articulation defects have lower scores on both the Templin test and PBK test compared to the children with normal speech.
