- Abstract
The article presents a medical report on the prevalence and severity of blindness in indigenous adult populations in Australia. It describes the social, infectious, and environmental factors that influenced the incidence of blindness in aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australian populations. It reveals that the infectious determinants are attributed to trachoma and hygiene practices, mode of transmission, and human, microbial and environmental interactions.
