- Abstract
This book of 1,691 pages (not counting 58 pages of index) reflects the author's more than four decades of continuous involvement with finance teaching and related research. Its 54 chapters are organized around ten subtopics: (1) Basic Concepts of Finance (including a discussion of the nature of finance, a description of the several forms of business organization, and instructions for the use of numerous analytical techniques); (2) Corporate Financial Structures (concerned largely with the principles governing the optimum mix of equity and loan funds under varying circumstances); (3) Financial Plans (characteristic of companies operating in different environments such as extractive, manufacturing, merchandising, transportation, and/or public service); (4) Capital Markets (depicted as places where qualified business enterprises may obtain equity and/or loan funds on a long- or short-term contractual basis); (5) Corporate Refinancing (dealing with such problems as conversion, refunding, redemption, and other adjustments to capital structures); (6) Income and Surplus Administration (including definitions, methods of quantitative determination, and resulting dividend policies); (7) Financial Expansion and Concentration; (8) Corporate Unions; (9) Business Failures and Corporate Reorganization Procedures; and (10) a final chapter discussing the relationship of Financial Management and the Economya.
