- Title
Cellular Localization of Virus Particles Associated with Downy Mildew-Diseased Rice Plants.
- Authors
EHARA, Y.
- Abstract
Two types of virus particles (spheres 30 and 35 nm) were frequently isolated from downy mildew-diseased rice plants (HONKURA et al. 1983). Both the virus particles were found abundantly in thin sections of oospores and mycelia of the pathogenic fungus, Sclerophthora macrospora, in diseased rice plants, but not in the plant cells. The particles were randomly scattered or densely compacted in the cytoplasm of the fungal cells, and were not surrounded by membranes. When fungal cells matured, and vacuolation of the cytoplasm increased, numbers of virus particles in the cells decreased.
