- Title
IOM Panel Urges Lifespan Study of Breast Cancer Risk.
- Authors
Voelker, Rebecca
- Abstract
The article reports on the request of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) for scientists to conduct a lifespan study of breast cancer risk, particularly on how a variety of environmental factors influence development of the disease. An IOM committee report confirmed the link between breast cancer and environmental risks such as ionizing radiation exposure, estrogen-progestin hormone therapy, and excess weight gain after menopause. Other risk factors were found to have limited evidence.
