- Abstract
Hendrik (Rik) van den Bussche was a renowned university didacticist, medical historian, and researcher in general medicine. He studied medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven and was a professor of medical didactics at the University of Hamburg. Later, he headed the department of general medicine and health system research at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and founded the Institute of General Medicine. Van den Bussche conducted various research projects, including the AgeCoDe study on dementia and the MultiCare study on multimorbidity. He was also a co-founder of the Center for Health Care Research and Public Health at UKE. Van den Bussche was known for his collaboration with general practitioners and his ability to bring people from different contexts together. He was a mentor to many of his employees and pragmatically pursued his goals. Van den Bussche remained active until his death in 2023 and planned to end his scientific activities by the end of 2023.
