- Abstract
The article discusses studies which examine the relationship between diabetes and oral health. Oral health problems linked to diabetes are listed including tooth decay, periodontal disease, fungal infections, and taste impairment. The importance of linking dental and medical care is discussed. George Taylor, associate professor of dentistry at the Schools of Dentistry and Public Health at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, explains the relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes. He believes that more research is needed on the cost benefits of linking medical and dental health. INSET: Oral Health Problems Linked to Diabetes.
