- Abstract
The article presents information on the risk of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma of patient with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Asymptomatic acute HCV infection can only be detected by surveillance programs with periodic HCV-RNA analysis by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Many countries have adopted surveillance system to identify patients with newly acquired HCV infection.
