- Abstract
The article presents a report from the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention regarding the decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) not to recommend routine quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccination (MCV4) for children aged 2-10 years who are not at risk for the disease. A summery of ACIP deliberations over the issue and the rationale behind its decision are analyzed. The continued recommendations for MCV4 administration to those children at risk, which includes travelers to nations where the disease is hyperendemic or epidemic, children who have terminal deficiencies, and children who have anatomic or functional asplenia, are explained.
