- Title
Israel: The Great Disconnect.
- Authors
Rule, James B.
- Abstract
The author looks at the support for the state of Israel in the U.S. Left. He focuses on the tension between the universalist model of nations favored in Western liberalism and the communalist and nativist nature of Israel, which is based on the common religion, ethnicity, and language of its citizens. He argues that many who support a Jewish state overlook institutional inequalities in the treatment of displaced Palestinians that they would decry in their own or other countries.
