- Title
The Logic of the Design Problem: A Dialectical Approach.
- Authors
Beckett, Stephen J.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the logic of the design problem in design thinking literature, using a dialectical approach. Topics discussed include the theories of problem solving in design, the logical paradox in design problem and its formal inconsistency, and the relation between design problem and solution and the role of abduction, a speculative form of reasoning, in it, according to researchers Kees Dorst and Nigel Cross. Also mentioned is the need for a designer to reduce the design problem situation complexity to a simpler and thinkable form.
