- Abstract
The article examines sound and its relation to philosophy, sociology, politics, media theory and other practices of scholarly knowing. Particular focus is given to how sound studies is an academic field that is a direct consequence of social and technological development. Additional topics discussed include speculative and critical design (SCD), the notion of Sonic Fiction and the book "Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear," by Steve Goodman. The sound and cultural studies conceived by the theorist Kodwo Eshun are also explored.
