- Authors
Laurent, Stéphane
- Abstract
The article offers an assessment of design culture in France. The author discusses exhibitions of design and decorative arts in France compared to other countries, suggesting that design and the education of the public about design have not progressed in France. The author suggests that the public was familiar with design styles before 1950 and discusses the separation of art and design following 1950. Other topics include the lack of design literature, the exhibition "Design Versus Design at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, and design exhibitions at the Victoria & Albert Museum in England and the Centre Georges Pompidou and Musée du Luxembourg in France.
