- Abstract
The nutritionist is responsible for carrying out actions regarding food and nutrition education, which can be used for the development of health promotion actions in Primary Health Care. In Brazil, tons of food are discarded per year. The application of the full use of food is potentially beneficial in reducing this waste because it is a strategy that encourages the use of all edible parts of food. It is an experience report, lived during a day in the extension project carried out in a Primary Health Care Unit in the city of Juiz de Fora, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It was carried out through active participation, with the objective of elucidating the concept, the benefits and the application of the full use of food in daily cooking practice. The actions carried out had a good repercussion, enabling participation and understanding about the proposed objectives. It is concluded that the full use of food is a strategy that provides benefits to the individual and collectivities. However, it is still not widespread and encouraged for the population, requiring greater actions in the Primary Health Care units.
