- Authors
Sorensen, Leif
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented on the science fiction novels "The Salt Roads" and "Midnight Robber," by Jamaican author Nalo Hopkinson. Particular focus is given to the depiction of the future and modernity within the aforementioned books, including in regard to countering the Eurocentric discourses that associate slavery with insufficient modernity and the use of Reggae dub music to invoke the legacy of modernity. The depiction of French poet Charles Baudelaire in "Salt Roads" is discussed.
