- Abstract
Our complication rate of 8.2% (primarily driven by a 5.5% reoperation rate) is similar to that in the broader literature and evident even when limited to elective procedures (with a complication rate of 7.6% and a reoperation rate of 5.5%). These values are similar to recent Canadian findings that report a sensitivity and specificity of 83% and 100%, respectively, for detecting pacemaker complications and 92.1% and 100%, respectively, for detecting CIED complications when administrative data were used ([5]). We limited our analyses to hospitals that did at least 25 CIEDs to ensure sufficient sample size per hospital in order to estimate a robust hospital-specific complication rate.
