- Abstract
Volume 14 of the historical-critical Schelling edition contains lectures on the method of academic study from 1803 and other texts from the years 1803 to 1805. Particularly interesting is the obituary "Immanuel Kant" by Schelling from 1804, which sheds light on the philosophical relationship between Schelling and Kant. It is also shown that Schelling, Fichte, and Hegel wanted to further develop and modify Kant's approach. The volume includes an editorial report, comments, a bibliography, and indexes. The text discusses the correspondence between Schelling and Fichte. It is pointed out that Schelling is not considered a suitable author for a necrology for Kant. Schelling compares Kant's critical philosophy to the French Revolution to emphasize its significance for German intellectual life. It is also mentioned that Schelling praises Kant's philosophical sincerity and takes a swipe at Jacobi. Schelling presents Kant's philosophy and the revolution in a negative light and criticizes the dissolution of the conflict between abstraction and reality. It also mentions rumors about Kant's increasing senility. In another lecture, Schelling criticizes pragmatism as a hermeneutical method of historiography and discusses the hierarchy of faculties.
