- Authors
McGrane, Coleen Maura
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of the chapter two of the book "Rule of Virgins," by Caesarius of Arles. It highlights scholar Adalbert de Vogüé's masterful analysis of the literary sources and vocabulary of the book, which was explained through four separate phases. It also examines the prescriptions that regulate the enclosure found in each of Caesarius revisionary process linked to specific historical exigencies. Moreover, Vogüé argues that Caesarius has failed to insert a mandate in the chapter for perpetual reclusion until its final revision. An overview of Caesarius' personal background is offered.
