- Abstract
The acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication in critically ill patients as well as a major risk factor for the development of renal complications, independently contributes to patient mortality, therefore, their prophylaxis, so timely determination as early intervention positively impact their evolution. There are promising new biomarkers to achieve early detection of AKI: Cystatin C, interleukin-18 (IL-18), injury molecule-1 in renal (KIM-1), N-acetyl-bD-glucosaminidase (NAG) sodium-hydrogen exchanger isoform-3 (NHE-3), neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL).
